North Hawaii packed their rally caps for the Little League Major Division (11- to 12-year-olds) District Tournament in Honokaa.

Facing a 7-0 deficit entering the sixth and final inning against Hilo, North Hawaii collected eight runs and took the lead. Hilo did not score in the bottom half of the inning, and North Hawaii squeaked by 8-7 to advance to the championship game.

Ka‘u stayed alive in the tournament by beating Hamakua Coast 11-5 in the late game. Hamakua Coast is eliminated from the tournament.

Ka‘u will play Hilo at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The winner will play in the championship against North Hawaii at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Because of the tournament’s double-elimination format, a second game will be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game, if necessary.

The tournament champion will earn a berth at the best-of-three sectional playoffs at Walter Victor Field in Hilo July 12-13 against the Maui district champion. The winner of that series will earn a trip to Oahu for the state tournament July 18.
